St Mary & St John Magazine – Jubilee News.
Many parishioners in both St John’s and St. Mary’s will remember the parish magazine which ran from 1981 to 2003. The magazine was edited and produced by Eric Scandrett ably assisted by the magazine committee. The magazines contained many articles contributed by parishioners, from parish news to local history. To celebrate the jubilee years of both churches a selection of magazines will be made available for download here. New ones will be added each month. We hope also to have a selection of paper copies available in church for you to view.
Click on the top image to download the very first magazine from the Summer of 1981. Click on the second image to download the penultimate addition in Spring 2003. In this edition there is an article about the laying of the foundation stone of both churches. As these are large documents they may take a few moments to download!
Below are six more magazines: two from the Winter of 1983-84 and 1985-86, two from Spring 1988 and 1990, and two from the Summer of 1992 and 1994:
Congratulations to St Jude’s Apostles, our quiz winners. Prayers for hopeless cases obviously work! What a great way to spend an evening raising money for our chosen charities: SoBS: Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide- provides support to adults who have been bereaved by suicide. CALM: Campaign Against Living Miserably- provides support for men in crisis and is a leading movement against male suicide. THE BRICK: A Wigan Project - that supports people who are homeless, in poverty or debt crisis.
THANK YOU... to Our Quiz Master, John Sweeney and all who have helped make the evening possible. ...to those who have donated raffle prizes...to Father Johnson for the use of the Parish Centre... and a special thank you to everyone who supported the event!
